wife accused of reckless homicide in the shooting death of her husband | Crime and courts
CROWN POINT – A Merrillville woman posted a $ 3,000 cash bond Tuesday after her arrest a day earlier on charges of shooting her husband to death in a fight in July.
Nakeyia J. Anderson, 31, faces one count of reckless homicide, a level 5 felony, in the homicide of Tihomas D. Anderson, 44, on July 18 in the 5900 block of Harrison Street in Merrillville.
A Lake Criminal Court magistrate has scheduled Nakeyia Anderson’s initial appearance for October 18.
Merrillville Police were dispatched to the Anderson’s home with a report of a gun assault and found Tihomas lying in the front yard with a gunshot wound to his chest, court records show. He later died in a hospital.
Nakeyia Anderson told investigators that she and her husband had been drinking and arguing which turned physical.
She claimed Tihomas Anderson took the keys to his silver 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and got into the car to attempt to retrieve his handgun under the front passenger seat.
Nakeyia Anderson told police the gun accidentally detonated as she and her husband struggled, records show.
Family members have told police a conflicting story, claiming Nakeyia Anderson was trying to leave and Tihomas was recovering his gun from inside the car, court documents show.
