Police to prosecute Lagos official for attempted suicide
Lagos State Development and Property Corporation staff member Akinlolu Ajayi was rescued from suicide on the Third Continental Bridge.
State police public relations official CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu said in a statement on Saturday that Ajayi was attempting to jump into the lagoon when police officers on routine patrol in the area rescued him.
He said Ajayi had been taken into custody for further investigation and prosecution, adding that his family members had been contacted.
Ajisebutu said, âThe incident happened at around 9:25 am on September 15, 2021, when a 54-year-old Akinlolu Ajayi, a member of the LSDPC town planning staff, Ilupeju, residing at No.1 Owodunni Street, Oworonsoki, has been seen on the third continent. âThe Bariga Police Division’s anti-crime patrol team during a routine patrol of the area immediately rescued the man and placed him in preventive detention. Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu, having ordered the man’s family to be contacted for necessary action, is calling on members of the public not to kill themselves, regardless of the challenges they are currently facing. The police boss further warns that such a wrongdoing is not only morally wrong, but also criminal. The suspect has been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
