Barnes County man sentenced to jail in GSI case

VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) – According to a news release from the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office, a Barnes County man was sentenced to 8 years with a 4-year suspended sentence at the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Center for Gross Sexual Imposition (GSI. ) This sentence will run concurrently with a similar charge in Stutsman County where he was sentenced to 12 years.

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin said Everett D. Flynn changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on June 8 and was sentenced on August 9 for the crime of gross sexual imposition and having sexual contact with a victim under the age of 15.

Sheriff McClaflin said a social worker from the Buffalo Bridges Social Services Area contacted the sheriff’s office on August 31, 2021 and reported that a child may have been abused at the Everett D. Flynn Residence located in the 5300 block of 106th Avenue SE in rural Barnes. County near Litchville, ND

After a lengthy investigation by the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office and the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff McClaflin said deputies learned from Everett D. Flynn’s own admission that he had sexual contact with a minor child. This minor child did not live in the residence with Flynn. After Flynn’s admissions, deputies took Flynn into custody where he was placed in Barnes County Correctional Facility.
